Masks now mandatory for ALL grades

November 26, 2020

Parents & Caregivers, Mask Guidelines Nov 27.png

Yesterday, November 25th, Premier Scott Moe and Chief Medical Health Officer Dr. Shahab announced new restrictions for Saskatchewan to aid in the response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In the new restrictions, masks are now mandatory for students, staff and visitors at schools at all times, except while eating or drinking.

The NWSD Board of Education moved to support this new measure and expand our mask mandate to all grades, from Pre-Kindergarten to grade 12.

The new safety measures will go into effect tomorrow - Friday, November 27th.

We understand that this change is happening quickly, and some families may not have masks available in time for tomorrow. Schools have disposable masks available for any students who do not have their own. Our staff will work with our younger students to support them as they adjust to wearing their masks.

There may be some students unable to wear a mask for medical reasons. Families are encouraged to access the Student Mask Medical Exemption Request form to begin the accommodation process.

In addition to expanding the mask requirements, NWSD will also be pausing all extra-curricular sports activities immediately. Activities will be paused until after students return in January, at which time we will re-evaluate the safety of moving forward with any sport activities.

This has been a challenging school year, but we want to echo the praise that Dr. Shahab and others have had for schools. Our students and staff are doing an excellent job managing the safety restrictions in our buildings and creating a safe learning environment for all. Thank you to all our NWSD families for supporting our work.
