Gr. 4 Field Trip to North Battleford - Mrs. Newport

On Friday, June 8, the Grade 4 class went on a field trip to North Battleford.  The morning began with a tour of Fort Battleford.  Our tour guide was very informative about the people and events that made history in Saskatchewan.  Names such as Colonel Otter and Chief Poundmaker were part of the presentation.  Students saw a sod house, a Red River cart, a birch bark canoe, a buffalo horn chair, old style fire extinguishers and many other interesting items from the early days.  Following the tour the students ate a bag lunch and then played a pioneer game.  Then everyone boarded the bus to tour the Allen Sapp Gallery.  The curator showed a video of Mr. Sapp and how he became an artist.  Students then did a scavenger hunt to locate various objects in the art work that was displayed on the walls of the gallery.  Then the students did an artifact activity where they matched First Nations artifacts with items we use today.  One item was a bow drill (which is used to make a spark to light a fire) and would be compared to the modern day "match" to light a fire.  Students enjoyed the day and would like to thank Kim Husch for driving the bus.  They would also like to thank our parent volunteers - Giselle Tootoosis, Luanne Jones and Scott Downie for coming with us on the trip.

Caution!  Caution!

Due to severe allergies among the students at NCS, the school requires that everyone avoid bringing any items with nut products, eggs that are not baked into an item or animals to the school.   Our students' health depends on your cooperation.  Thank you.

Thank you to Karrie Blackbeard for all her hard work on this yearbook!

If you need to complete your collection with previous years, 2015-16 yearbooks are on sale for $20.00, 2014-15 for $15.00 and older ones are a steal of a deal at $5.00 each.

Grade 6 and 7 Independent Studies Fair – June 15, 2018, 2:15 to 3:15

The Grade 6 and 7 class have spent the last 1/3 of the year working on an independent Studies project.  The topic of the project was of their own choosing and the representation of the learning was also decided by the students.  If you want to see the students' work, you are welcome to attend the fair.   Please expect to fill out a judging sheet when you come.

SCHOOL SUPPLIES FOR NEXT YEAR

Supply lists for Back to School Solutions will be sent home soon.  There is no obligation to order your school supplies this way, but it is an option.  The school does get a small percentage of all the orders back.

If you are ordering this way, please send your order back to the school with a cheque attached payable to Value Drug Mart and Associates Ltd. by June 27th.  You can order online and then choose only the items that you need.  Your child may have some supplies left from previous years so you can only order specific items.  The deadline for ordering online is August 7th.   Kits are then shipped to the school in August and arrive with labels that have your child's name on them, to put on all the supplies.

Please keep the list as that is the only supply list you will get for next year.  The lists will also be posted online.
