FROM SASKATCHEWAN SCHOOL BOARD ASSOCIATION NEWSLETTER (PAGE 2)

Let's Fight for Our Children

News from the SCC

As I’m sure most of you are aware, Mr. Maier, as our principal, has many responsibilities at our small school.  If he’s not teaching, you may find him at a principal’s meeting or a School Community Council meeting or unclogging a toilet in the boys’ bathroom.  Recently added to his list of duties is to be a part of a committee to address the government’s decision to cut Educational Assistant jobs.  Please see related articles on the school website on the SCC page.

The SCC is helping Mr. Gunderson and the students with the Greenhouse Project.  Please lend a hand to this important fundraiser.  Green thumbs and non-green thumbs alike are welcome.  Not only is this a great learning opportunity for the kids, but also an opportunity for community involvement.  Among the items that will be for purchase in the spring, will be tomato plants, herbs, and of course a variety of flowers.

The SCC will be administering a school fundraiser is the next month or so.  “Aunt Sarah’s” Chocolate bars will be sent home and it is important that each family sell their share.  This fundraiser and others like it fund things such as travel for field trips and admission for the museum or the children’s festival for example.  The dollars needed each year to fund these special events for the students is around $7000 so everyone’s help is essential.

All SCC meetings are open to the public so please join us.  If you would like an item discussed at an SCC meeting, please let any committee member know.  Our committee members are: Cathy Oftedal, Alexis Loehndorf, Stacey Nolin, Lynda Letkeman and Tammy Dancy.

Please remember, Green Acre School is a true community school.  We are very fortunate to have it as the heart of our community.
