Jonas Samson School Goals

Math 7-9
Goal: In 2011-2015 school years we will increase their Math scores by 10%.

Problem Solving – breakdown into chunks

Grade 7 – Introducing Vocabulary (translating)
               - Model

Grade 8 – review Vocabulary
              - increase difficulty in questions
              - Minute Math (10 Questions) – extends vocab.
              - Recognizing strategies

Grade 9 – Work on words of Math
- Bell work math leading to skills CHS wants in Gr. 10           

- developing their own problems according to the 7 steps for problem solving

Assessments: School Division Math Screens and AFL

Outcome: Improved problem solving skills, smoother transitions to CHS, and improved student outcomes.

 

Literacy 7-9
Reading
Goal:
For each year there will be a 10% increase in the number of students who meet or exceed the end of the grade expectations in the literary and informational texts.

Rationale:
Currently, JSSH students are below the district and Canadian norms for reading comprehension.

Plan objective:
Increase 10% on student achievement in reading comprehension

Indicators:
Scores on AR tests, number of AR tests taken, achievement on AR

Baseline Data:
CAT4, Division Screens, goal setting for AR, and STAR testing

Performance Targets:
Are they achieving AR goals?
Improvement in book difficulty/level, STAR tests, etc.

Strategies:
Continue great reading programs (AR)
Use resource personnel to work with lover achievers
Modelling reading in classroom
Continue novel studies and reading classes

 

Literacy 7-9
Writing
Goal:
Over the next 3 years 70% of our student population will meet or exceed competent rating on our PLC developed writing assessment rubric.

Rationale:
Align our grade teaching strategies and evaluation.

Plan objective:
70% of students score competent or higher on Assessment rubric

Indicators:
Locally determined rubric

Baseline Data:
Rubric score from testing

Performance Targets:
Based on PLC, targets will be chosen by each grade

Strategies:
Transitional plan of skill attainment for students moving from gr. 7-9
Each grade establishes assessment criteria
Specific rubric will be developed by each grade

Cross-curricular sharing of assessment tool and expectations
