Neilburg Composite School Exam Policy, January 2012

1.       All exams are in Mrs. K.B.'s classroom.

2.       For morning exams, students writing departmentals must be in the exam room, seated and prepared to write their exam, by 8:45.  Be sure to bring all the supplies that you need to write the test! At 8:45 students writing departmentals will receive their instructions.  All students will begin writing their exam at 9:00 a.m.

3.       For afternoon exams, students must be in the exam room at 12:45.  All students will begin their exams at 1:00 p.m. after instructions have been read.  Again, be prepared to write the exam.  Bring all the materials you need to the exam room.

4.       All exams are 2.5 hours long, with the option of requesting an additional ˝ hour if necessary.  All students must remain in the exam room for at least 1 hour after the start of the exam.  At that time, if you are finished your test and have gone over your answers you may quietly leave the exam room.

5.       It is essential for the students who remain in the testing room to have a quiet testing environment, so they can do their best.  If you leave the room early, you must either go to the library and QUIETLY study for your next exam, or leave the school immediately.

6.       Students will not be allowed to bring jackets or bunny hugs (hoodies) into the testing room.  If you feel you may be cold, wear a sweater or a sweatshirt without pockets.

7.       Any student who must leave the room for any reason must be accompanied by a teacher to and from their destination within the school, including the washroom.

8.       No cellphones, MP3 players, palm pilots, electronic dictionaries or any other electronic equipment is allowed in the exam room during exams.

9.     Mr. Walso and Mrs. Worman will be clearing calculators before math, chemistry and physics exams.

10.    No food or drink will be allowed in the testing room, with the exception of water bottles.

11.   Desks will be labeled Grade 7 to 12. You may sit in any desk labeled with your current grade level.

Recommend Policy for Neilburg Composite School – January 2012

1.      It is the belief of Neilburg Composite School that preparing for comprehensive final exams is an important part of every high school student’s education, especially in senior grades.

2.      Recommends are offered to Grade 7 – 11 students in certain subjects at the discretion of the subject teacher. Recommends are viewed as a privilege rather than a right.

3.      Minimum requirements for recommends in any subject area are:

·      A mark of 75% or higher in that subject,

·      The student must be in the top 2/3 of the class,

·      No more than ten excused or unexcused absences. Note: two lates (excused or unexcused) are equivalent to one absence,

·      Individual teachers may have their own criteria for each subject.

4.      Each student must write at least two exams during the January writing period, as well as in the June writing period.   For students with full recommends, teachers will select which two exams the student will write.
