Jr.A Girls Volleyball – Miss Johnson
This past Thursday and Saturday the Jr.A Girls attended Mega Volley in Maidstone. On Thursday they played Macklin and Paradise Hill and managed to come in second in their pool, placing the girls in the Silver Pool, on Saturday. Saturday the girls played together as a team improving on their serves, passing and hitting. This is the best the girls have ever played! They played and defeated Edam, Maidstone II, and Cut Knife, putting them 1st in their pool. After coming 1st in their pool, they went to playoffs where they played Waldheim. Waldheim was a tough team defeating our girls 25-15 and 25-20 in 2 sets. The girls had a great day and congratulations on playing well.

District Cross Country - Mr. Walso
This year, Neilburg was represented by one cross country runner at the district meet in Meadow Lake. Kale Moth placed 25th out of 54 runners in the Bantam Boys category. Kale recorded his best time of the year on the hilly course, running the 3000 metres in 17:54. Great job Kale!

WELLNESS SECTION

October is Eye Health Month!

The purpose of this awareness month is to promote the importance of eye exams to prevent long term problems.

Many kids in school discover that they have trouble reading the writing on the board at school. Good vision is very important for school age children. Trouble with vision can lead to problems like blurred vision, headaches, and feeling tired.

As parents you can watch to see if your child rubs his or her eyes lots, has headaches, turns or tilts their head or closes one eye to use one eye more than another, or performs below their potential.

Make sure your child reads in good light. It is also important to take breaks from reading, watching TV, playing the computer or video games. Do not let your child sit to close to the TV. Ensure your child is active and eats healthy.

Be sure to take your child to the eye doctor for a routine eye exam, especially if you have noticed some of the above mentioned symptoms!

Check out www.opto.ca for more information.

Join us for a special Family Event where you’ll find books for every person in your family.  (Books make a great Christmas gift).  Don’t forget to enter our Family Event draw.  You could win $50 in books - $25 for your family and $25 for your child’s classroom!  We hope you will join us at the Book Fair!

PARENT STUDENT TEACHER INTERVIEWS

Interviews will be held on Monday, November 1 and Wednesday, November 3 from 4:00-6:00 and 7:00-9:00 p.m.  Mrs. Heeroma will only be available on Wednesday and Miss Johnson will only be available on Monday from 4:00-5:30 and Wednesday from 4:00-6:00 and 7:00-9:00.  Parents of Elementary students are asked to call the school office at 823-4313 and set up  an interview time that works for them.

High school parents do not have to set up an appointment but can talk to the teachers, as they become available.  We ask that you keep high school interviews to 10 minutes per teacher so that all parents have an opportunity to meet with the teacher.

Please encourage your son or daughter to come to the interviews with you.  Research shows that students who attend interviews with their parents “buy in” to the process more effectively.  This helps to make the interviews more productive for the teachers, the parents and the students.
