say thank you on behalf of the recipients. MAGAZINE SUBSCRIPTIONS Just a reminder if you have a magazine subscription coming up for renewal during the year or you are wanting to subscribe to a new magazine you can order online at any time. Go to www.qsp.ca The school code is 15526. FUN OLYMPICS - Neilburg School hosted their own Olympics on February 26. The students and staff participated in Olympic events such as cross country skiing, hockey and relays, although you might not have recognized them since they were modified so that everyone could be a part of this fun afternoon. Opening ceremonies were led by Colin Weinkauf, who carried in the torch in a regal manner with the help of the Grade 10 students. "Medals" were given to all participants at the end of the day, along with hot chocolate. It was a great day, full of the Olympic spirit, Neilburg style. KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATIONForms have been sent home to parents of children who are of age to attend Kindergarten in the fall. If you have a child who will be five by Dec. 31/2010 and did not receive a letter in the mail, please contact the school so we can get them out to you. We would like the registrations back by March 31st. ELEMENTARY PARENTS If you did not receive a phone call requesting an interview, but you would like to meet with a teacher, please call the school to set up an interview time for Thursday. Interviews are from 4:00-6:00 and 7:00-9:00 p.m. on Thursday. WELLNESS SECTION Sometimes the most helpful thing we can do for someone is to just quietly listen. Listen Author unknown
When I ask you to listen to me and you start giving advice, you have not done what I asked.
When I ask you to listen to me and you begin to tell me why I shouldn’t feel that way, you are trampling on my feelings.
When I ask you to listen to me and you feel you have to do something to solve my problem, you have failed me, strange as that may seem.
Listen! All I asked was that you listen. Not to talk or do – just hear me. Advice is cheap. Ten cents will get you both Dear Abby and Bill Graham in the same newspaper. And I can do for myself. I’m not helpless. Maybe discouraged and faltering, but not helpless.
When you do something for me that I can and need to do for myself, you contribute to my fear and weakness.
But when you accept as a single fact that I do feel what I feel, no matter how irrational, then I can quit trying to convince you and get to the business of understanding what’s behind this irrational feeling. And when that’s clear, the answers are obvious and I don’t need advice. Irrational feelings make sense when we understand what’s behind them.
So please listen and just hear me. And if you want to talk, wait a minute for your turn; and I’ll listen to you.
Below is a kid friendly healthier choice for your family to try – great for school lunches or quick meals on the weekend. Mini pizzas (Makes 2 servings)Pizza has the potential to be a highly nutritious meal when prepared at home because you can control the fat, fiber and vegetable content. Your kids will love these fun little pizzas, especially if you get them to help make their own.

Penny Carnival – Northwest Leadership Academy – Skyler Bossert and Alex Foster On March 31, 2010, the school is planning on hosting a Penny Carnival to raise money for Relay For Life. Start time for the Penny Carnival is 5:00, ending at 7:30. There will be various games and activities in the gym, along with a barbeque. Cheeseburgers will be sold for $3, hamburgers for $2.50, and pop for $1. Last year, we raised over $500 and we are hoping to surpass that this year. Come on out and support Cancer Research. PRIZES FOR PENNY CARNIVAL Do you have stuffed animals that are still like new or other little toys, games, jewelry, etc. that are still in good condition and you no longer need or want. The school is looking for small items like these that they can use for prizes for their Penny Carnival on March 31. You can drop these items off at the school office if you like. Thank you! TELEPHONE SOLICITATION TO BE AWARE OFThe Children’s Emergency Fund is doing a telephone solicitation in Saskatchewan for “school breakfast and lunch programs.” This is NOT Breakfast for Learning. BFL does not do telephone solicitations. When asked to provide information on the programs they fund in SK they refused, citing privacy laws in Canada. There are no such laws that would inhibit a non-profit that is raising funds for school programs from providing, at the very least, the number of schools they fund. I am unaware of any schools being funded by this organization. Note: be wary before giving donations to any organization over the phone. Ask that they mail you a request so that you can check it out more thoroughly to see if it is a legitimate organization. ELEMENTARY PARENT REMINDER Please ensure that your child has spare clothing in their backpack as many are getting wet during break time and then have to sit in wet clothing for the rest of the day. Also, rubber boots and splash pants may help prevent the students from getting wet clothing.
