This past weekend the Sr. boys travelled to Ile-a-la-Crosse
for the 3A boys provincial championship. The boys lost to Ile-a-la-Crosse in
their first match but then reeled off victories against Redvers, Kinistino and
Dalmeny to finish round robin play tied for
frst with Ile-a-la-Crosse at 3 wins and one loss. Because
of the loss to Isle-a-la-Crosse the boys placed second in our pool. We then
played Langenburg, the third place team in the other pool, and defeated them
in two straight sets.
In the semi finals we were defeated by Waldheim the
eventual gold medalists.
Once again we had to play Ile-a-la-Crosse for the bronze
medal. We won the first set 25-18 but then lost the next two by scores of
29-27 and 25-23. This fourth place finish is the best finish by any boys team
in the history of Neilburg volleyball!

Sr.
Boys Volleyball
Nov. 4, 2009 - Mr. Gross
The Neilburg Senior Boys
Volleyball team has completed the exhibition portion of their season. The boys
competed in six tournaments. On the September long weekend the boys travelled
to Marwayne and placed second losing to Kitscoty by two points in the fifth
set of a marathon final. The following weekend the Trojans hosted a tournament
and after placing second to Maymont in the round robin defeated Maymont in the
final. Next up was Maidstone Megavolley. The boys were first in the Thursday
gold pool and defeated Goodsoil, the Friday gold winner. The Trojans then met
Maymont in the final where Maymont defeated our lads in three sets. The
Trojans have been in the gold medal match four times in the last six years
winning three times. On October 2nd the team travelled to Saskatoon
for the Bethlehem tournament. Our boys rallied late in the tournament to
qualify for the playoffs. We lost to St Josephs but then defeated Bishop James
Mahoney for the bronze. On Saturday the boys won five two point games which
was thrilling but hard on the coach. The next tournament was the battle of the
border in Lloydminster. The boys were inconsistent in this tournament and lost
to Paradise Hill in the first round of the playoffs. Our final tournament was
this past weekend in Maymont where the Trojans played extremely well going
undefeated in the round robin by not dropping a set. The guys then defeated
Unity two straight. Maymont defeated Leoville so once again it would be
Maymont versus Neilburg in the final. Our boys won the first set and Maymont
won the second. In the third set our boys went out to a commanding 19-10 lead
and eventually won 25-18 to take the rubber match between these two evenly
matched teams.
The Trojans now begin the
playoffs in Lashburn on Monday November 9th. The top two teams
advance to Regionals with three teams moving on to provincials. Good job so
far and good luck in the
playoffs.
