T.P.E.C.
Program Description
T.P.E.C. has been in
operation in Meadow Lake since September 1995, known as StoreFront School and as an extension of Carpenter High School.
Since 2002 StoreFront School has grown from
having only one teacher (vice-principal) with one classroom to becoming
an independent school with a principal and several staff members,
depending on programming, to work with up to sixty or more students. The
name of the school was changed from StoreFront School to Transition Place Education Centre in 2006 to better make the
public aware of the concept behind the school.
T.P.E.C. is an alternate
school setting for students with personal issues which have interfered
with their abilities to function successfully in a regular school
setting. Our school provides a new
opportunity to stabilize their school experience and create a new sense
of self esteem and set attainable goals.
Here students prepare
themselves to re-enter regular school settings, enroll in other
educational institutions, learn employable skills through a work
experience program, address their social needs;
while addressing their educational needs.
T.P.E.C. offers a full
complement of secondary courses from grade eight to twelve which are
delivered through instruction and individualized programs.
