Assessing and Differentiating for
Critical Inquiry
– February 9, 2012
Facilitator – Garfield Gini-Newman
Planning for inquiry for
students with diverse interests and strengths is challenging. Ongoing
assessment of students’ competence in using the intellectual tools to think
through critical challenges provides information teachers need for
instructional planning that appropriately and effectively engages and supports
all students in inquiry learning.
Outcomes:
Participants find supports
within the TC2 approach to critical thinking and inquiry to:
Plan for differentiated
instruction and assessment in critical challenges and inquiry learning
Effectively use assessment for
learning to nurture critical thinking, and assessment of learning to measure
the quality of thinking
Participants will explore
ways to:
Use critical challenges as
authentic tasks for students and teachers to implement effective peer and self assessment
Use critical thinking to
improve the quality of descriptive feedback
Differentiate critical thinking
tasks and critical challenges to meet the diversity of interests and strengths
of students
