Sean Bernard, a grade 12 student at Carpenter High School, has been selected as a student representative to attend the UN Conference of the Parties (COP), an international gathering taking place in Egypt in November focused on addressing the impacts of climate change.

The plenary session, on Youth & Future Generations Day, November 10, 2022, involves a collaboration of international schools who produced a Global Child Manifesto - It will be formally presented at COP27. Sean Bernard will be the North American lead voice on this presentation.

Sean is currently enrolled in Northern Lifestyles 20, a NWSD Virtual Learning School pilot project that is in its initial development phase. Students in Northern Lifestyles 20 investigate and negotiate personal, cultural, and community identity and sustainability through skills development, cultural experience, and experiential learning. The course is offered with an Advance Placement option. NWSD has partnered with the College Board and United Nations Association of Canada in the development of a course that meets Advanced Placement Capstone requirements while supporting Sustainable Development Goals and developing student ambassadors.

Sean joined students from 60 countries in a virtual launch on Sept 29th. He will be a part of the virtual classroom that will write a Global Child Manifesto in October and be the North American lead voice in presenting the manifesto during the plenary session, on Youth & Future Generations Day, November 10, 2022. This event will be live streamed, and schools, family and communities will be able to watch.

The link to the event will be shared on NWSD social media channels.

Northwest School Division is proud to have Sean represent Carpenter High School, Meadow Lake, and students from across North America.
