RE: Changing Provincial Health Orders

Dear Parents/Caregivers,

The announcement on February 8th by the Premier of Saskatchewan will bring changes to our approach for controlling the spread of COVID-19 in Northwest School Division.

The news release from the Government of Saskatchewan can be found here.

After discussion at the recent meeting of the NWSD Board of Education, NWSD will make the following changes, to align with provincial measures:

Masking

The public health order requiring masking indoors will expire at midnight on February 28, 2022. Effective March 1, 2022, masks will no longer be required to attend or visit a school in our division.

Northwest School Division administration strongly recommends the continued use of masks for as long as individuals feel it is necessary, based on their own personal experience and needs. NWSD will continue to provide masks at schools for personal use for both staff and students. Schools and offices will continue to be mask-friendly spaces.

Safety Measures

The use of rapid antigen tests, available at schools and in many communities, is still encouraged, as well as basic hygiene practices like frequent hand washing/sanitizing, coughing into your elbow, and social distancing where possible. Most importantly, we remind all families to keep children home when they are sick.

Proof of Vaccination

A province-wide public health order requiring proof of vaccination or a negative test before entering certain establishments will be lifted at midnight on February 13, 2022. The Ministry of Education has advised that school divisions are expected to stop seeking proof of vaccination prior to individuals entering a school building after that date. Effective February 14, 2022, this requirement will be lifted in Northwest School Division.

NWSD Administrative Procedure 434, requiring proof of vaccination or a negative rapid antigen test for employees and other designated groups will be rescinded and will no longer be in force, effective February 14, 2022.

The Saskatchewan Health Authority and provincial government still strongly recommend those who are eligible get vaccinated as soon as possible. Youth between the ages of 12 and 17 years are now eligible to get their COVID-19 booster shot.

Sincerely,

Duane Hauk
Director of Education
