Update re: Potential Teacher Sanctions

February 25, 2020

Dear Northwest School Division families and staff,

As you may be aware, the Saskatchewan Teachers' Federation held a vote amongst its membership and the teachers voted in support of sanctions. However, discussions between the Saskatchewan Teachers' Federation, Saskatchewan School Boards Association, and the Ministry of Education are ongoing.

What does this mean for schools and families? There is the potential for some type of job action to take place in the coming weeks if the Saskatchewan Teachers' Federation provides that direction to the province's teachers. This would include teaching staff in Northwest School Division.

We want to assure families that plans have been put in place to deal with job action, should it occur. Our intention is to do everything possible to keep Northwest families and staff informed, so that together we can provide for the safety and well-being of children during any potential period of job action.

Notice of any job action will be provided to Northwest families through a letter, which will be sent home with students and/or communicated through SchoolMessenger. We will also utilize our social media channels and websites to inform the public of our plan to mitigate any strike action.

Thank you for your understanding and for your support of our division and teachers. Should you have any questions or concerns, please contact your school principal or the NWSD Meadow Lake office.

Sincerely,

Duane Hauk
Director of Education
Northwest School Division
