A Message from Principal, Ms. Reynoldson

March has been eventful! It is fun to have so much happening at our school.  Our SRC is doing a great job and we thank them for their initiative. The leprechaun traps that the elementary students made were spectacular and the SCC distributed gold coins to all the students to recognize St. Patrick's Day.   We had a M.A.D.D. presentation at the beginning of the month which emphasized the importance of planning a safe ride home and the consequences of impaired driving. Report cards went home for K-9, and we hosted two parent conference nights. I am only touching the surface of all the things that happen at our school.  Aside from all that we must remember all the important learning that is happening in our classrooms.  Our students are doing great work with the guidance of their teachers.

Everyone is looking forward to Easter Break next week and we hope that when we return on April 17 there will be less snow! Have a good week off and hopefully we will get the chance to enjoy some sunlight!

Kindergarten Registration 2023-2024

Kindergarten registration forms have been mailed out. If your child was missed, please contact Neilburg Composite School at 306-823-4313.

Kindergarten teacher, Lisa Perkins, will be welcoming all eligible kindergarten children into her classroom on Thursday, May 11, 2023, from 1-2pm. In addition, there will be an information evening for parents and children to attend at our back-to school SCC BBQ in the fall. This date is yet to be determined.

Please contact the school if you have any questions.

Congratulations to Tristan Ducherer, a grade 11 student at Neilburg Composite School on his acceptance to the Global Culture and Media Academy at the University of Pennsylvania in Philidelphia. The three-week program will be held on campus during the summer from July 9 to July 29, 2023. To apply, Tristan had to write five essays and have a letter of recommendation from Ms. Reynoldson. The process was long! His application was submitted on December 12, 2022, and the decisions were released March 15, 2023. There was a very competitive pool of applicants and to say that Tristan is excited to be a part of this program is an understatement. Tristan will be learning about intercultural communication and how culture impacts a country's marketing strategies. After completing this course, Tristan plans to apply for undergraduate studies in Marketing and Communications at UPenn, where he hopes to continue his passion for learning.

Trojan Pride! Way to Go!

Celebration Assemblies- This year we have implemented a 9 am, Monday morning assembly each week.  It is time for our students and staff to gather, build community and share information about the upcoming week. The celebrations have been moved closer to the first Monday of the month to better suit our school year calendars. We will continue to recognize students that are showing Grit (perseverance) and/or Grace (tolerance and cooperation) as well as recognize our student athlete of the month and our fine arts student of the month now that we have a choir. Check out our photo wall by the gym. Our next assemblies are May 8th and June 5th

** At this time, I am unsure when conferences are, so the Apr. 26th match may be cancelled. Districts are scheduled for April 29th in Meadow Lake.

The Junior Badminton players have been very successful in their league play. Eight players competed in Mega Birdie at Maidstone School: Avery Perkins, girls singles, Chloe Peters and Tori Roth in girls' doubles, L.J. Facun and Kaydon Koedyk in mixed double, Mathias L'Heureux and Jake Hein in boys' doubles and Jace Newport in boys' singles.  All players represented our school very well in terms of sportsmanship and etiquette.  Jace Newport played second in his pool and lost in the quarter finals.  Mathias and Jake placed first in their pool and then beat College Park's team from Lloyd to enter the final where they picked up a silver medal!  Congratulations Team!!

Jake and Mathias Silver at Mega Birdie in Maidstone!

Sr Badminton - Coach Ms. Ross

Practices are on Tuesdays and Thursdays 3:15 - 5:15pm.

Mega Birdie April 21 and 22. Times to be determined.

Practice games with other schools will begin shortly, Neilburg is waiting on word from a few coaches as to specific dates.

PARKING LOT

As discussed at our most recent assembly, students driving trucks will need to park in the arena parking lot to make space for garbage removal, staff and visitors. All staff and visitors must have access to the staff parking lot on a regular basis and garbage removal must happen promptly and without delay. Thank you for your cooperation.

-Mrs. Monique Whyte and Ms. Reynoldson

Playground Area

Be prepared for Spring!!

We expect students to be dressed appropriately for the season.  Splash pants and rubber boots must be worn to go into puddles. We also recommend a change of clothes be brought to the school along with extra mitts and a plastic bag to carry wet items home.  Students without appropriate attire will need to stay in the dry areas of the school yard. Reminder: our entire playground can be one large puddle, at times! 😊

Helicopter Parenting:  How Good Intentions Result in Poor Outcomes for our Children -

 -NWSD Family Advocate

You have probably heard the term before or maybe you have used it yourself, helicopter parents. As excerpted from the blog attached in the link, “Parents should, of course, do the best they can for their kids. Impulses to involve ourselves in our children's lives often come from a sense of duty, and of unconditional love. We can harness those desires to give the most we can to our kids by resisting helicopter parenting, which can lead to poor outcomes in adulthood.
Instead, try letting your children discover themselves—their weaknesses, strengths, their goals, and dreams. You can help them succeed, but you should also let them fail. Teach them how to try again. Learning what failure means, how it feels, and how to bounce back is an important part of becoming independent in our world."  We all want what is best for our children and don't want to be judged at the same time. Some things to try with your children to foster their autonomy:  walking to and from school with other kids, packing their own lunch with guided choices, letting your children do age-appropriate chores, and the hardest one, allowing them to fail.

VISITORS TO OUR BUILDING

All visitors will be welcome at NCS and are required to check in with our secretary, Kara McGarry, or sign in and out of the building. We have moved the sign in sheet from the office to the hallway for easier access. All schools are private facilities, and we must know who is in our building and what their intentions are while here.  Please be advised that all exterior doors will be locked between the hours of 8:55 am and 3:15 pm except for the main school doors. We are asking parents to drop off their children at the main doors if they arrive late and check in at the office. Thank you for your cooperation in keeping our school safe and secure.

**The booth is back! It will be running Monday-Friday at noon hour** Watch for update and specials!

Caution! Caution!

Due to potential anaphylaxis and serious allergies amongst the students at NCS, the school requires that everyone avoid bringing any items with nut products, shellfish and eggs that have not been baked into an item.  We also recommend NOT sharing food items with classmates! Pet allergies are also a concern for many students and staff.

Our students' health depends on your co-operation. Thank you!

 MILK PROGRAM

The Milk Program is back up and running. Every day at lunchtime, a cart comes to each classroom and gives either chocolate milk or white milk to those students who have paid for a Milk Card. Milk Cards can be purchased through School Cash Online and are $10 for 8 milks. The cards will stay at school and be on the cart when it comes around before lunch. Your child's card will be “punched" when your child takes milk.

** Reminder microwaves are unavailable for daily use due to fire code. Only booth items can be heated while supervision is present** Thank you for understanding this Northwest School Division rule.
