In response to COVID-19 protocols, the Re-Open Saskatchewan plan and Northwest School Division's School Re-Open plan, the school is moving to block scheduling for the 2020-21 school year.

Students in Grade 7-9 will move to a five-period day. Students in Grade 10-12 will move to a three-period day.

The most dramatic change will be seen by students in Grade 10-12. Class times each day will be longer, but courses will end after less days of instruction. Students will receive the same number of hours of instruction total as in the past.

There will be a morning class offered from 8:55 am to 10:55 am. An afternoon class will be offered from 12:55 to 3:15 pm. Teachers will ensure that students have breaks in this allotted time.

For example, from September 8 to November 10, Grade 10 students will attend Science 10 from 8:55 am to 11:00 am. The course will end and students will write a final exam on November 10. The course is over and credits will be granted for passing students at that time. A new course will begin on November 16. Essentially, secondary courses will transition from a two-semester system to a four-term system.

A one-hour class will run from 11:00 am to 12:00 noon. These classes will be offered on alternating days and will run the full school year.

Switching to a block scheduling system such as this allows the school to maintain cohorting of students, minimize transitions and allow an easier transition to hybrid or remote learning should the need arise. The system also allows students to earn individual credits more quickly.

Students are expected to consult with Mr. Walso, the career and guidance counsellor, on credit and graduation requirements.
