A Message from The Principal

December looks like it will be jam packed with events and excitement!  Our SRC has been hard at work making our school experience extra entertaining.  The last spirit week was enjoyed by many, and our monthly student staff challenges have been a lot of fun!  Last month the students and staff played a game of Timed Dodge Ball and had a Minute to Win-it challenge.  It's great to see so many smiling faces in our building creating a wonderful school atmosphere.

On November 14, the LIVE DIFFERENT group that travels across Canada was in our school promoting resilience and growth.  Grades 7-12 participated in a large group assembly in the morning and grades 8 and 9 had a focused presentation in the afternoon. I really enjoyed the prerecorded interactions with three of our student leaders: Landen Roznowski, Taeya Wiens, and Vincent Cunanan.  Their responses were authentic and genuine representations. Way to represent, Trojans!

This past month also saw our first reporting period. Please continue to encourage your son or daughter to keep doing their very best and attending as much as possible.  We are aware that many viruses are circulating, and we need to stay home from time to time.

Finally, the grade 9 and 10 classes attended Try a Trade in North Battleford on Nov. 30 with Ms. Ross and me.  Try a Trade is an interactive career fair featuring over 33 exhibitors. It is projected by 2023 that there will be approximately 34,000 positions available in construction trades due to retirements and the growth of other trade sectors. Our students were able to try their hands at many trades and visit informational booths. Azure was our friendly bus driver!

This will be the last newsletter of this year!  Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, everyone.  I look forward to a spectacular school year in 2023.

 Ms. Reynoldson

Thank you to our dedicated coaches!  Volleyball season came to an end last month.  All our teams were successful at different tournaments throughout the season.  Volleyball teams would not be possible without coaches like Mrs. Perkins, Ms. Chammartin, Mr. L'Heureux, Mr. Wilson, Miss Weinkauf and Ms. Reynoldson!  Hundreds of hours go into each team's season! Way to go, Trojans!! You have made us proud. We are grateful for our supportive families that drove our athletes to practices and tournaments.  It's great to have so many people working together to enrich our student athletes lives by giving them the opportunity to be part of a team😊

Celebration Assemblies- This year we have implemented a 9 am, Monday morning assembly each week.  It is time for our students and staff to gather, build community and share information about the upcoming week. The last Monday of each month our school hosts a celebration assembly to recognize students that are showing Grit (perseverance) and/or Grace (tolerance and cooperation) as well as recognize our student athlete of the month. Check out our photo wall by the gym!

Neilburg Co-Op Donation of $250 dollars was presented by Trina Czerniak!  The proceeds from the Coop Harvest Supper were shared between Marsden and Neilburg Schools. Thank you so much!

We hope you enjoy ham, hashbrown casserole, carrots, celery & dip, a bun and strawberries and ice cream

Guests are welcome in our school!  If we weren't expecting you, please stop in the office and let someone know that you are here! Also let someone in the office know if you are picking up or dropping off your students outside the usual times.  Please be advised that all exterior doors will be locked between the hours of 8:55 am and 3:15 pm except for the main school doors. We are asking parents to drop off their children at the main doors if they arrive late. Thank you for your cooperation in keeping our school safe and secure.

Caution! Caution!

Due to severe allergies amongst the students at NCS, the school requires that everyone avoid bringing any items with nut products, shellfish and eggs that have not been baked into an item or animals to the school. Our students' health depends on your co-operation. NCS is also a scent aware school. Thank you.

MILK PROGRAM

The Milk Program is back up and running. Every day at lunchtime, a cart comes to each classroom and gives either chocolate milk or white milk to those students who have paid for a Milk Card. Milk Cards can be purchased through School Cash Online and are $10 for 8 milks. The cards will stay at school and be on the cart when it comes around at lunch. Your child's card will be “punched" when your child takes milk.

**The booth is back! It will be running Wednesday-Friday at noon hour** Watch for updates and specials!

** Reminder, microwaves are unavailable for daily use due to the fire code. Only booth items can be heated while supervision is present** Thank you for understanding this Northwest School Division rule.

How can you show your children that you're proud of them?

Although it's sometimes difficult to show your children how proud you are of them, the following tips can help you:

  • Praise your children for the things that matter.
  • Applaud the process more than the result.
  • Remember the obstacles they've had to overcome to achieve a particular feat.
  • Express confidence and appreciation in their abilities.
  • Keeping your expressions of pride in context is important, although you shouldn't overdo it.
  • Your children receive compliments better when they're close to achieving something. Therefore, choose the right moment.
  • It can be easy for you to focus on other children's achievements. But avoid making comparisons.

Words that every child should hear:

“I'm proud of you"

If you're proud of your children and want to tell them, don't forget that the words must be genuine and sincere to truly mean something to them. Without a doubt, each of your children does something to make you proud.

“You're very good at …"

Absolutely every child is good at something. If you observe that your child has a special ability, it's good that you recognize it.

You should get involved in your children's education if you want them to get good grades in school.

“You were created for something special"

Through these words, you provide your children with an optimistic vision and curiosity for the future. It isn't always necessary to wait until they're teenagers to start projecting the future with them. Start early and encourage them to think about who they want to become when they grow up.

Finally, you should bear in mind that motivated children who see their progress in a positive light have more confidence and happiness. In addition, the true pride to which a parent should aspire isn't to make their children superior to another, but rather to make them all happy individuals.
