Please be advised that effective Monday, October 21, 2019, NCS will be locking all exterior doors between the hours of 9:00 am and 3:15 with the exception of the main school doors. Visitors will be required to check in with the school office. We are asking parents to drop off their children at the main doors if they are arriving late. This will bring us in line with best practices and with school division policy.

LIBRARY WEEK – Oct. 20-26

This week is Library Week in Saskatchewan.  Are you a member of the Neilburg or Marsden Lakeland Library?  Did you know that it is free to join?  This allows you to borrow any book, magazine or DVD from any library in Saskatchewan!  You can browse the library or go online and order any movie or book you like. It will be delivered to your local library where you can pick it up.  You also have the option of ordering an e-book online. There are computers with internet in the library that you can use free of charge as well.  Stop in and sign up!

BOOK FAIR – Cathy Ducherer- Librarian

The school library is hosting their annual Book Fair! The theme this year is Arctic Adventure. The school gets a percentage of sales to purchase new books for the library. The Book Fair is open to the public. You can stop in at the Book fair starting Oct. 28 through to Oct. 31. The Book Fair will also be open during parent teacher interviews on Oct 28 and 30 from 4-7 pm.

Did you know that reading:

Increases your knowledge and vocabulary by 50%

Lowers stress by 68%

Can lengthen your life by 2 years

It can boost your mood and help you relax

It is a workout for your memory, imagination and your heart

A student who reads 20 minutes per day will be exposed to 1.8 million words per year!

Please help our library earn books while helping provide your child with all of the benefits of reading!

LITTLE FREE LIBRARY

We have started a "Little Free Library" at the school.  Students may take a book to keep.  If they have one that they want to put in its place, that is great, but not required.

Most of the books are geared towards teenagers, but as we get books donated or are culled from the library, it will be filled with all different kinds of books.  If you have any books at home that would be suitable and you would like to donate them, we would very much appreciate it.

Caution!  Caution!

Due to severe allergies among the students at NCS, the school requires that everyone avoid bringing any items with nut products, eggs that are not baked into an item or animals to the school.   Our students' health depends on your cooperation.  Thank you.

SCHOOL MESSAGES

Parents PLEASE sign up for SchoolMessenger so that you receive messages from the school.  This is the way we communicate important messages.  Text to the number 724665 and then reply Yes and you will be set up to receive messages.

STUDENT ABSENCES                                                                                                                                                                   Parents please notify the school if your child is going to be absent. The school will no longer be using the automated phone call system. Parents will be receiving a phone call if their child is absent. Please call or email the school for all absences. Voice messages can also be left at the school. Call 306-823-4313

PARENT/STUDENT/TEACHER INTERVIEWS                                                                                                                             Report cards for grades 10-12 will be sent home on November 7th and for grade 1-9 on November 15th.   Interviews will be held prior to report cards being sent home.  They will be on Monday, Oct. 28 and Wednesday, Oct. 30 from 4:00-7:00 pm. Parents of elementary students are asked to call the school office at 306-823-4313 to set up an interview time that works for them. High School parents do not have to set up an appointment but can meet with the teachers when they become available as they have numerous teachers.  We ask that you keep interviews to 10-15 minutes per teacher so that everyone has an opportunity to meet with each teacher.  Please encourage your son or daughter to come to the interview with you.  Research shows that students who attend interviews with their parents "buy in" to the process more effectively.  This helps to make interviews more productive for the teachers, the parents and the student.

Once again the Prairie North Health Region will be offering flu immunizations to students and parents on Oct. 30th from 4:00-7:00 pm.

STUDENT FEES

You will be notified what student fees are owing if you have signed up for SchoolCash.  We encourage parents to pay fees, buy milk cards, yearbooks, etc through SchoolCash.  If you are not signed up, you can get instructions on how to do so by calling the school office.
