The role of the Family Advocate is to work as a team with schools, families, and organizations to ensure students have the best chance of success.
Some of the ways the Family Advocate can provide support:
- Listening to the stories and worries of families.
- Making sure families have all the information they need to understand and work through the school system and other organizations.
- Connect and build relationships between home and school.
- Help families find support with the government, housing, financial support etc.
- Help families fill out complicated paperwork.
- Attend meetings at school with the families regarding behaviour, attendance, academic support etc.
- Help families voice their worries and concerns.
- Help families and schools make a plan for students to return to school after an absence.
